IRT Youth Auditions

The Indiana Repertory Theatre is currently looking for four talented young actors to be in our 2024 production of A Christmas Carol, directed by our new associate artistic director cara hinh.

Below are the requirements to be in A Christmas Carol:

  • 8-14 years old; any gender or ethnicity
  • For the role of Tiny Tim, height must be under 4’11’; taller actors are eligible for other roles
  • Vaccinated and boosted – and be able to provide documentation or vaccination status
  • Must be able to attend all rehearsals and performances required
  • Must be willing to cut hair shorter for the role of Tiny Tim
  • Must be able to get permission from school to participate

Rehearsals take place Oct. 17 – Nov. 15, six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. Rehearsal times vary. Most youth rehearsals start after 3:30pm but a few select school days must be missed in the rehearsal process. Young actors must be available for Saturday and Sunday full day rehearsals.

Performances begin Nov. 13 and close Dec. 24 and include many weekday student matinees, which will again require missing some school. Two teams of two young actors each will alternate performances. Only Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are off around the holidays.

Auditions will be held in person at the IRT on Sunday, August 11, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Callbacks will be Tuesday, August 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

To Audition:

Be prepared to perform the following monologue from memory:

“At last the dishes were set on, and grace was said. It was succeeded by a breathless pause. Mrs. Cratchit, looking slowly all along the carving knife, prepared to plunge it into the goose; but when she did, and when the long-awaited gush of stuffing issued forth, one murmur of delight rose all ’round the board!”

AND

Be prepared to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” or “Happy Birthday” (without piano)

If you have any questions or are unable to attend the live auditions on August 11, but you would like to be considered, please let us know by emailing casting@irtlive.com.
